Is Covid-19 a Judgment from God? -The Need for Some Clarity by Michael Bresciani, April 17, 2020

It is unfortunate that most of the people struggling to answer this question are woefully unaware of what the Bible says and both the sovereignty and the nature of God.

He is both loving and severe. To see him as only one way or the other, is a serious mistake.

“Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.” (Ro 11:22)

The preachers, prophets and messengers of our day act as if God needed their permission to cast a judgment against nations for their unrighteousness. Finding verses of scripture that support their viewpoint may make some feel good, but there is little doubt that God is not very impressed.

Filling an article with specific chapter and verse references will do little for most. It suffices to say, that ongoing judgment of sin, specific judgment to nations, regions and individuals is a recurring theme of scriptures, rather than something that is infrequent or obscure.

The Godless, pagans, agnostics, atheists, and deists may care less what the scriptures say about it, conversely, the scriptures care even less about their assessment of God’s word.

It does well to ask, in which category of God’s intervention does this pandemic fall. The worst thing we can do is to decide that this is just an event that slipped by God’s attention.

We have only to ask a sparrow, not a career scientist or politician if this could be true.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.” (Mt 10: 29)

Three rudimentary categories that call for God’s intervention

1. A divine warning. (Fair Warning)

2. A long overdue judgment or precursor to greater trouble yet to come.

3. A pattern or strong single event, or combination of events, to change the entire socio/ economic and political shape of the entire world.

All three must be weighed very carefully, but while we adopt a cautious look see attitude, we need to be careful of two extreme behaviors that are always manifested in times of crisis.

Number one, is the proclivity to offset the severity of a calamitous occurrence by noting heroes’ efforts to curb it. From president to street sweeper we begin a campaign of patting each other on the back. The net result is a spirited collective mentality that seems to show how, together we can defeat anything that comes our way. It is accompanied by a “how dare anything, approach our wonderful selves” attitude.

A second behavior is to single out one kind of sin or group of sinners to blame for the entire crisis. All sin is the cause, and all people are sinners, so who specifically is to blame?

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Ro 3:23)

According to Christ, as the world approaches its final days, iniquity will abound. In fact, the entire period before the return of Christ is often referred to as the day of evil. It turns out that the great judgment is brought on because sin becomes pervasive and creates a confluence of our worst behaviors.

For those who are always floating somewhere between faith in God and total ignorance, things like pandemics can have a positive effect. It can force them to ponder, pray and restart their lives. It can serve to help them do what the bible refers to as “humbling ourselves” so God can begin to heal our land.

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2Ch 7: 14)

But let’s not get confused.

Headlines like this... “Dangerous Ground: NY Gov Boasts We Flattened The Curve - 'God Did Not Do That'” are not very humble. Coming from the U.S. city hit the hardest by the pandemic makes Cuomo’s boast sound very defiant and pompous. Not surprising, coming from one of the worst abortion centered cities in the world.

Two things we all seem to miss – at very great cost

The truth is, that just like New York City, most Americans will cry, sigh and die before they ever ask why.

Why have many communities and millions of square acres of land burned to the ground on our west coast?

Why have tornadoes, storms and floods ravaged parts of our nation, some even during the coronavirus pandemic.

Why do our children mark, mutilate and destroy themselves by suicide more than any other nation on earth?

Why do millions need cocaine, heroin and endless cubic tons of marijuana to make it through life? (If we dare call it that)

It is the convergence, the confluence and the endless onslaught of these calamities, disasters and pandemics that we fail to see as - one ongoing message from the Almighty.

The message is not penance - it is repentance.

The other elephant in the room

The other havoc creating monster that we refuse to see is our endless penchant for everything sordid, silly, salacious and sleazy – we love our sin. (John 3:19)

If you’re not into everything adult you must be a dolt.

What would God say to 60,000,000 (sixty million) abortions of healthy and potentially useful human beings under the auspices of a few judges who dare call themselves “supreme?”

What does God actually think of men and women who, even after knowing that he says it is an abomination, not only continue to practice their perversion, but then they say they are – “married?”

Does God care that after telling us all that we must raise our children in the admonition and knowledge of God, we turn and tell them they came from the big bang and an ape or two.

Does God agree that we should spend trillions of dollars to answer a fake impending man-made disaster called “warming?” But not a nickel of any precious private and public funds is spent to foster faith.

Finally, if we think coronavirus is bad what will we do when upwards of one third of the world’s population is wiped out in a single stroke in the coming judgments of earth. (Rev 9:15)

Can we say for sure, that the present coronavirus pandemic is a judgement from God?

The answer to that is clearly – no!

Can we say for sure, that the pandemic is not a judgement from God?

The answer to that is also – no!

This author will not paint God as a doting old grandpa in the sky who laughs and giggles at the antics of his grandkids.

He has promised to intervene when we pass the mark – and you can mark that down – the rest of the argument will, in a very short time, be history.
