Thoughts on "The Day After" by Curtis Dahlgren, August 22, 2017

National-Day-of-Prayer.jpg"The President should call . . . not an ordinary Day of Prayer as we have had in the past . . [but] all places of recreation and amusement should be asked to shut down . . All churches and synagogues should be open.' The Day of Prayer was one of three proposals. The others were: (2) A full-dress airing before the U.N. General Assembly of the 'ugly story' of Red tyranny and suppression. (3) A 'peaceful counteroffensive to roll back Communism, the spiritual, moral, economic, and psychological offensive with the thought of defeating Communism, not just fearful clinging to our position."

- Philadelphia Inquirer, August 21, 1961

BERLIN: Yes, there was a Berlin crisis a year before the Cuban missile crisis, both of which tested a new President. The proposals above were made by Billy Graham during a crusade in Philly, as reported by Decision magazine, October 1961):

"Unable to get into Convention Hall at the opening of the Philadelphia crusade, 2,000 stood in the rain outside."

If such a crusade were held these days, there would probably be a couple hundred protesters standing outside. Here's an excerpt from an e-mail I just received:

In 1952 President Truman established one day a year as a "National Day of Prayer.

In 1988 President Reagan Designated the first Thursday in May of each year as The National Day of Prayer.

In June 2007 (then) Presidential Candidate Barack Obama Declared that the  USA "Was no longer a Christian nation.

In May 2009 President Obama dismissed our 21st annual National Day of Prayer  ceremony at the White House under the ruse of "not wanting to offend anyone"

I guess Pres. Kennedy never did declare that Day of Prayer "like none other before," but notice how soon the fall of the Berlin Wall happened after Reagan's 1988 designation. Billy Graham's proposals were all coming to pass, 25 years or so after the fact, under the conscious guidance of Pres. Reagan, Lady Thatcher, and the Polish pope. History revisionists would try to tell you that Reagan just 'happened' to be in the White House. He had nothing to do with the fall of the Berlin Wall, liberals say. In fact, they think that if anyone should get credit, it ought to be the Russian, Gorbachev.

North Korea is a vestigial pocket of hard-core Communism, if you don't count Cuba and Venezuela as real threats. History at least rhymes, if not repeats, and Donald rhymes with Ronald (a good omen?). I think the Donald should call for a special Day of Prayer for the people of North Korea. Maybe Kim would get the point. Where are Mark Twain and Will Rogers now that we could use them? Our late night "sages" turn all their fire on our own President instead of pudgy enemies. What the heck? Pardon my French, but . . .

Speaking of the French, their legislature recently passed the "Equality and Citizenship" bill, so called because it bans spanking. I guess it grants full citizenship to kids from the womb to the tomb. O GREAT! That's all we need - the better to produce spoiled-brat snowflakes who grow up angry and become terrorists putting lots of other citizens in the tomb. Curiouser and curiouser gets the world of the history revisers and revilers.

BY THE WAY, Europe is seeing a funny parallel between the East Berlin "Exodus" in the 60s and the "Exodus" by Muslims from their holy lands. We all know why the East Berliners were fleeing, but why are the Islamic true believers fleeing the Middle East if Allah is so Great?

Hmmm. That's as far as my rough draft got after about 15 minutes of writing. One dumb question. Maybe if I were smart, I'd leave it right there. If I can think of a more effective conclusion, I'll include it next week.

P.S. Remember: the answer to the prayers we pray today may be 25 or 30 years away. Just ask Billy Graham. Or Billy Sunday.

Final thought: If Google can guess what you're trying to google after 2 or 3 key strokes, what makes you think that God can't guess what you're going to ask for even before you ask for it? Good question, eh?

PPS: Last week I referred to the driver of that car in Charlottesville as a car-terrorist. Someone on cable news even suggested that the jihadists in Spain were copy-cats of the Charlottesville "Trump supporter." SEE HOW FAKE NEWS WORKS? But anyway, there is video evidence that the guy's car was struck by the "anti-fascists" before he accelerated, perhaps out of fear for his life. NOW do you believe he was paranoid?

MORE TO COME.
